Nice day not too much wind. Few boats and people out on the beaches on the island shores. Interesting that trees are growing out in the middle of the water. Saw a 3 to 5 lb fish jump out of the water and also saw what looked to be a white-headed eagle from a distance. Plenty of parking and easy access.
This is hands down my favorite boating access area more for the fact there is a walking trail through the woods but boating is good too. Someone (possibly a homeless person) has been camping on the beach (their tent and airbed was destroyed). I don't think local teens would eat beanies and weenies, beans, canned food and try to burn the cans in a makeshift fireplace and leave their camping gear behind. Other than this, it's a nice boating area. Quiet and peaceful with ample boat trailer parking.
Quaint boat ramp operated by corps of engineers. Pretty sure this one is Free to launch, but No frills or extra amenities like bathrooms, camping, picnic shelter/tables, grills, etc. an excellent location to launch boat for fishing without the headache of busier bigger ramps nearby. Also has closed off area accessible for waking that takes you to a great peninsula and an island that can usually be waded over to. Oh has beautiful sunrise too!
Apple Island, which is not an Island but very close to being one. Apple Island is a big piece of land that is out in Hartwell Lake.. I think it would be good to rent camp sites.. Good place to set up Tents or have a Travel Trailer, nothing real big.. When way in and one way out..There is a landing beside the Island which also be great for the campers. So my question is, Who owns Apple Island??
I used to love going here so much. There were never any people and it was clean. Now there's so many inconsiderate people who go there and leave trash all over. It's sad that no one cares about the environment and ruins it for others.
